The ICDC was originally funded in April 2009 through a 5 year Interdisciplinary Team Grant from Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions (formerly Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research). The ICDC was part of a second cohort of five research programs which were supported by Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions Interdisciplinary Team Grants (ITG) Program to address complex health issues in Alberta.
In April 2014 the ICDC received a 5 year Collaborative Research and Innovation Opportunities (CRIO) team grant.
